This is the most dynamic denomination of Islam in modern history, with worldwide membership exceeding tens of millions.
The Ahmadiyya Community was established in 1889 by
( Na-Auzabilaah )Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad (1835-1908) in a small and remote village, Qadian, in the Punjab, India. He claimed to be the expected reformer of the latter days, the Awaited One of the world community of religions (The Mahdi and Messiah). The Community he started is an embodiment of the benevolent message of Islam -- peace, universal brotherhood, and submission to the Will of God -- in its pristine purity. Hadhrat Ahmad proclaimed Islam as the religion of man: "The religion of the people of the right path" (98:6)
Mirza Ghulam Ahmad was the founder of the Ahmadiyya movement. He declared that he was the “Promised One” of all religions, fulfilling the messianic prophecies found in world religions. He stated that his claims to being several messiahs converging into one person were the symbolic, rather than literal, fulfillment of the messianic and eschatological prophecies found in the literature of the major religions
(NauzaBilallah) .The motto of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is “Love for All Hatred for None”.
With this conviction, the Ahmadiyya Community, within a century, has reached the corners of the Earth. Wherever the Community is established, it endeavors to exert a constructive influence of Islam through social projects, educational institutes, health services, Islamic publications and construction of mosques, despite being bitterly persecuted in some countries. Ahmadi Muslims have earned the distinction of being a law-abiding, peaceful, persevering and benevolent community.
The Community offers a clear presentation of Islamic wisdom, philosophy, morals and spirituality as derived from the Holy Qur'an and the practice (Sunnah) of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him). Some Ahmadis', like late Sir Muhammad Zafrulla Khan (who served as the first Foreign Minister of Pakistan; President of the 17th General Assembly of U.N.O.; President and Judge of the International Court of Justice, at the Hague), and Dr. Abdus Salam (the Nobel Laureate in Physics in 1979), have also been recognized by the world community for their outstanding services and achievements.
Facts about (Qadianiat or Ahmadiyat )
Selective Martial law was declared over Lahore in 1953 by the Pakistan Armed Forces, in response to civil unrest following anti-Lahore Ahmadiyya Movement agitations. Then-captain Rahimuddin Khan (later General and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee) was part of the military deployment heading the army takeover of Lahore, culminating in the arrest of Maulana Maududi, who was considered the principal agitator behind the riots.
In 1973,Maulana Maududi condemned them as heretics in his book, Qadiani Problem (Qadiani is a derogatory term for Ahmadiyya).Confident of state support, the Jamaat-e-Islami contested the 1970 elections in Pakistan. Thereafter, Jamaat started a widespread anti-Ahmadiyya movement in Pakistan In 1973.This anti-Ahmadiyya movement led Pakistani prime minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to declare Ahmadis as constitutionally "non-Muslims".
In 1984, the Government of Pakistan, under General Zia-ul-Haq, passed Ordinance ,which banned proselytizing by Ahmadis and also banned Ahmadis from identifying themselves as Muslims. According to this ordinance, any Ahmadi who refers to himself as a Muslim by either spoken or written word, or by visible representation, directly or indirectly, or makes the call for prayer as other Muslims do, is punishable by imprisonment of up to 3 years. Mirza Tahir Ahmad ran and moved the headquarters to London, UK.
By a unanimous decision of the elected representatives of the supreme law-making body of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Constitution of 1973 was amended by the Constitution (Second Amendment ) Act, 1974 (Act XLIX of 1974) to amend Article 106 and Article 260 thereof. Clause (3) was added to Article 260 to declare those persons as non-Muslims who do not believe in the “absolute and unqualified finality of Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon Him) or claims to be a Prophet in any sense of the word or of any
description whatsoever, after Muhammad (PBUH) or recognizes such a claimant as a Prophet or a Religious Reformer". The Qadianis of the two groups are interalia covered by this definition and they were thus declared non-Muslims.
Article 106 dealt with the constitution of Provincial Assemblies which specified the number of Members to be elected for the Assemblies, their qualifications and also the additional seats in those Assemblies reserved for non-Muslims i.e. Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist and Parse communities. To these communities were added by the Second Constitutional Amendment of 1974 “persons of the Qadiani Group or the Lahori Group (Who call themselves Ahmadi).” Thus effect of Article 106 was given by declaration made in Sub Article 3 of Article 260 and Ahmadis of either persuasion were placed in juxtaposition with other minorities.
The Constitutional Amendment of 7 September 1974 exposed religious and political aspects of Qadianiyat. Muslims of the world realized that it was an underground political organization having links with Imperialism which motivates and utilizes it for its evil designs. Its religious grab is only a cover to play a destructive game. Under the benign patronage of the British Government, it played a destructive and anti-Islamic role to undermine the integrity of the Muslim world.
Do read this Anti Qadiani Ordinance of 1984 by (Dr. Syed Rashid Ali) by the topic "Pakistani Constitution and Qadianis" or visit " www.alhafeez.org/rashid/constipak1" this truely reveals alot of historical background It seems that Bhutto had a softcorner for Qadianis in his heart, even if his statement is interpreted as mere politics. and why Gen Zia ul haq was a goner .......After reading such articles which have a prime position on the internet do we all consider that Muslims are going in a possitive and clear dirrection ........
